History
views Akavoor Chathan as the man who holds the key to the creation
of the temple. And we believe that the temple had come up during
the period of Agnihotri. Both belong to the Parayipetta Panthirukulam
(the heirs of Vararuchi, who is said to have 12 sons who are considered
to be embodiments of Lord Vishnu. Hence, the temple is rightly held
by Akavoor, Vediyoor and Venmani.
But
due to the changes in the Land Ownership Act 1970's the three Manas
found it difficult to keep the ownership alive, and transferred
the right to the Devaswom Board. A year later this right was surrendered
to the Manas. From then on a society to govern the temple was formed
with the public support. This saw drastic medernisation process
and the temple were well ahead in its development. Further during
May 1991, the established governing body and the Manas decided to
hand over the rights and duties to a trust, known as the THIRUVAIRANIKKULAM
MAHADEVA TRUST. The members consisted of the Manas and the former
governing body.
